Civil Scholarship Fund
Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Thailand had set up Nonexpendable Civil Scholarship Fund with Civil Initiative in Nepal by supporting financial contribution to support the education of disadvantaged high school level students in Nepal with the due priority to earthquake victims for the first 5 years.
The very scholarship fund was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister of Nepal Hon. Gopal Man Singh amidst an event at Hotel Yak & Yeti on 14th June 2017 jointly organized by NRNA Thailand and Civil Initiative. During the inauguration ceremony, NRNA Thailand President Mr. Khagendra Raj Dhakal handed over the cheque of 3,589,999 NPR as seed fund to Civil Initiative in the presence of the Education Minister and many dignitaries. NRNA President Dr. Shesh Ghale, Thai Ambassador to Nepal H.E. Bhakavat Tanskul, Tribhuvan University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tirtha Raj Khaniya, TAAN President Chandra Rijal, Media person Sabina Karki, Civil Initiative Representative Hemanta Raj Dahal and representative of US Embassy of Nepal expressed their best wishes and solidarity for the sustainable development of Civil Scholarship project and appreciated the initiative of NRNA Thailand.
The donated amount has been separately deposited in a fixed account in Mega Bank Nepal Limited (MBNL) and the scholarships has been managed by the interest of the capital on an annual basis. For the year 2017, the scholarship project was piloted in Dolakha and Gorkha districts of Nepal distributing the scholarships to minimum 40 students. We have already completed the distribution scholarship (14,500 rupees each student per year) in 2 installment (installment of months) and now planning to distribute the scholarship for new academic year 2076 immediately after the SEE result is published.

For envisioning the scholarship and raising the seed fund, Nepali community in Thailand led by Mr. Khangendra Raj Dhakal (The Then President), NRNA Thailand was acknowledged as the founder of the scholarship fund and its subsequent presidents will remain in the scholarship board by default. To expand the nonexpendable fund, contribution from any individual and institutions is welcome and appreciated to meet the target of 20 million NPR.

Civil Initiative has committed to operate the scholarship project voluntarily without any administrative cost from the scholarship fund. For the sustainable development of the scholarship project, Civil Initiative and NRNA Thailand both will continue fundraising drive to meet the target to outreach maximum numbers of needy nationwide. Any contributors coming with remarkable donation can be invitee to the board on a mutual understanding.
We also would like to invite all NCCs to donate to expand this program so that Civil Initiative can acknowledge their contribution and put in the system legally. We welcome all NCCs to help this Civil Scholarship Fund initiated by NRNA Thailand.
